Hey guys,
I learned some great general information on the country of Sudan (my sources will be at the bottom this is all a commentary on what I learned). Sudan is a country leaning towards Islamic military power, its located in northern Africa near the Sahara desert. Life expectancy in Sudan averages at 50 year old, 49 years for males and 51 years of age for females (I found this to be a very short life span compared to the life span of 76 in the United States). The infant mortality rate is significantly high to about 87 deaths to the first 1000 kids. That to me is a very sad statistic, a child deserves to live more than most adults. 400,000 people in Sudan are living with AIDS with around 23,000 deaths caused by it. Most diseases are spread through water contamination, so for our project we need to come up with a source of purification that can let all of the bacteria be eliminated. Here are some of the results,
degree of risk: very high
food or waterborne diseases: bacterial and protozoal diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever
vectorborne diseases: malaria, dengue fever, African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness)
water contact disease: schistosomiasis
respiratory disease: meningococcal meningitis
note: highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has been identified in this country; it poses a negligible risk with extremely rare cases possible among US citizens who have close contact with birds (2008)
This is my info for now, hope this helps.
